(We’d like to use this page to talk plainly about “Money Matters,” that is, how we are able financially to stay on the field and continue doing God’s work in Africa. For a deeper understanding of our views on support-raising, please see Our Beliefs about Fundraising.)
Did you know that LCMS World Mission has adopted a new policy with regard to missionary support? All new missionaries are now responsible for raising 100% of their own support as of April 2008. Although we are not “new” missionaries, we have accepted a “new” call (since July 2009). As such, when we accepted the Lord’s call to transition from Togo to South Africa, we also accepted to raise 100% of our own support every year.
What this means to you is that we are taking a more active role in developing prayer partners and financial supporters than previous LCMS WM missionaries have been expected to. It also means that you can expect a dynamic connection to our work in South Africa and throughout Africa as we commit to providing you with regular updates via letters, e-letters, a blog, a web-page, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Our goal is to have regular contact with our supporters as much as that is possible and/or desired.
You’ll be happy to know that 100% of your donation is applied directly to our support. There are no percentages or fees taken out. All dollars given for our support are earmarked for and restricted to our support. Your donations intended for us are not applied to any other missionaries or projects. If God ever uses donors to over-fund us in one particular year (and we praise God if this happens!), the excess funds are carried over and used for our support in the next fiscal year.
You’ll also be happy to know that, because of your direct support of our ministry, our work is no longer in danger of being restricted or put on hold because of unexpected cuts in the general budget of LCMS World Mission (and those sudden cuts seem to happen more and more often these days…). God’s work goes on!
Please note that not all the verbiage on synodical forms and websites reflects this new policy. But rest assured that dollars given for the Fluegge’s will be used for the Fluegge’s. We’d love to chat if you have any questions about the above – please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
Everyone who goes needs an army of senders standing behind them. We’re honored that you’d consider partnering with us in such a fashion. Thank you!
Here’s how you can partner with us:
There are two basic ways to financially partner with us in our ministry:
- Special one-time gifts are wonderful and are welcome at any time. Please download and use the Pray for Glenn & Susan sheet that gives more info.
- On-going gifts (called pledges or commitments) are also wonderful and reassure us of God’s provision on a regular basis. Here are two sponsorship options:
- If you are a congregation, LWML/Ladies Aid Society, or other small group, you want the Together in Mission (TIM) program where you “adopt” us as your missionary family. Please contact us for more information. You can also call Debbie at the LCMS World Mission headquarters in St. Louis at 1-800-433-3954, Ext 1651 or send her an e-mail at Debra.Feenstra@lcms.org to enroll in this sponsorship program.
- If you are an individual, you want to check out the Mission Senders program. For this you can download and use the Pray for Glenn & Susan sheet or contact us for more information.
